The Hospitality Mentality

A month ago, I was dining with two business associates at a chain restaurant. Our waiter came to the table, smiled and introduced himself and the young man who was with him, a new hire whom he was training. The waiter explained the specials took our drink order and returned with drinks to take our food order. He didn't have to ask who got what drink. I was the only woman at the table and he took my order first. He also served me first. All three of us ordered entrée salads and one of the gentlemen I was with ordered a cup of the soup of the day. The waiter, being attentive, asked if the two of us who didn't order soup might also like a cup. Realizing that our friend would be eating alone, we both ordered a cup of the soup du jour. I was impressed.
